WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RETURNS HOME TO FACE APPALACHIAN STATE

RADFORD, Va. – Following its season-long six-game road swing, Radford finally plays in front of its home crowd Monday at 7 p.m. when Appalachian State invades the Dedmon Center for a nonconference women's basketball contest.
MEET THE MOUNTAINEERS
» App State features a young team this season as 10 freshmen and sophomores are currently on the roster. Because of this, the Mountaineers (1-7) are suffering through some growing pains.
» Their only win of the season was against Lees-McRae (86-57) on Nov. 15.
» App State has already battled one Big South foe this season, falling to Gardner-Webb (69-63) on Nov. 19.
» It will be a homecoming for junior forward Maryah Sydnor, who starred at Radford High School from 2007-11. The 2011 Virginia State Player of the Year eclipsed the 2,000-point plateau and led the Bobcats to the state title her senior year.
» Ironically, Sydnor returns to the New River Valley only 22 points away from scoring 1,000 points. She averages a SoCon-best 22 ppg and a team-best nine rpg. Sydnor has scored in double figures in each of the Mountaineers' eight games, including a season-high 29 against Lees-McRae. Sydnor has also delivered five double-doubles.
» App State averages 64.6 ppg, while allowing 75.5 ppg. Its 41.1 field-goal percentage ranks third in the SoCon. The Mountaineers are also accurate from downtown, connecting on 36.6 percent from deep, which ranks second in the SoCon.
» With its 41.4 rpg, App State is at the top of the SoCon for that category.

» The Mountaineers lead a tightly-contested series, 10-7. Radford has not played App State since Dec. 3, 2007, when the Highlanders won (65-45) at the Holmes Center. RU has won the previous three meetings.
