RADFORD STUMBLES AT WASHINGTON & LEE, 7-2
2/15/2013 10:00:00 PM | Women's Tennis
LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore Meg Napolitano prevailed at No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles, but the Radford women's tennis team did not fare as well, dropping a 7-2 decision to Washington & Lee (1-0) Friday evening at the Duchossois Tennis Center.
Napolitano and fellow sophomore Taylor Newman took down the Generals' Claire Cahill and Meghan Buell, 8-5, to record the first point of the day for the Highlanders (0-3). However, W&L (ranked seventh in Division III) earned victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to snatch a 2-1 edge heading into singles play.
Despite taking two matches to three sets, Napolitano emerged as the lone Highlander to register a singles win. She earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4) victory over Cahill in the fourth slot.
Radford stays on the road for its next battle, a Feb. 19 dual at Elon. The Highlanders and the Phoenix square off at 2:00 p.m. from the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
