RESULTS
ATHENS, Ga. – Several personal bests were set by Radford swimming and diving after two days of competition at the 2013 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships held at the University of Georgia's Gabrielson Natatorium.
On day two, nine personal records and three more season-bests were obtained, with four of those times earning top-five status in the Highlanders' record books. Junior Haley Schweitzer posted a pair of those career-bests chopping three and two seconds of her times in the 400 IM (4:44.29) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.66), respectively, which are the fourth (improved on own mark) and fifth fastest times in the program annals.
As a team, the Highlanders will enter the final day of competition in 10th place.
The morning started off with the first of several fast swims for the Highlanders as freshman Yvonne Smith lead time of 29.64 in the 200 medley “B” relay was an improvement of 2.37 seconds.
The 100 butterfly saw two more personal records and two of the three season-bests. Junior Jessica Frazelle and sophomore Jessica Baker, her second in as many days, each took over two seconds off their times, with Frazelle's being the fourth fastest (59.68) in program history.
Claire Doherty , who posted the Highlanders' fastest time (58.23) in the event, and Emily Turner with a 1:00.36 added season bests. Turner also put in a season-best in the 400 IM (4:40.83).
Meaghan Rowley's 1:00.74 in the 100 backstroke put her into the top-5. Morgan Sullivan in the 200 freestyle (2:05.46), along with Jordan Jessee and Sydney Sweet in the 100 breaststroke also finished strong touching the wall at 1:12.07 and 1:14.45, respectively, with the latter a near five second improvement.
In the evening, the 200 medley squad of Frazelle, Schweitzer, Sarah Fredericksen and Mary Flinn and the 800 freestyle team of Fredericksen, Turner, Doherty and Flinn each placed ninth.
Day three of the Championships resume tomorrow with preliminary heats at 10:00 a.m, which will include the women's 3-meter diving.
