ATHENS, Ga. – Junior Skye Hickling finished fifth in the 3-meter board and freshman Sarah Fredericksen placed 10th in the 200 meter butterfly as Radford concluded the 2013 CCSA Championships held at the University of Georgia's Gabrielson Natatorium. The Highlanders finished 10th as a team.
Hickling posted a score of 264.95 points in a final that 7.05 points separated second to fifth. It was a two-spot improvement from last year's seventh. Fredericksen improved on her preliminary time by a second, finishing second in the “B” final with a personal best time of 2:05.05. To reach the finals, Fredericksen finished 11th in the preliminaries churning out a 2:06.07, while Hickling recorded the fourth-best score with 265.80 points.
Radford's 400 freestyle relay team led by senior Emily Turner closed its 2013 season and the evening with a season-best 3:37.49. In her final swim as a Highlander, Turner saved her best (100 freestyle) time for last, leading off the relay with a 53.69, the second fastest mark in program history.
The group of Turner, freshman Mary Flinn, junior Jessica Frazelle and junior Meaghan Rowley finished in eighth.
Including Fredericksen and Turner, seven Highlanders turned in personal bests in their final races of the season. Sophomore Jessica Baker and freshman Yvonne Smith grabbed personal bests in the 100 freestyle with times of 58.53 and 56.48, respectively. It capped off a strong weekend for both Highlander rookies as it was Baker's third personal best and Smith's second.
In the 200 breaststroke, Haley Schweitzer posted her third straight personal best with a 2:29.51. Jordan Jessee and Sydney Sweet followed with personal and career-best times of 2:33.86 and 2:41.56, respectively. In the 200 back, freshman Reagan Padgett also earned a personal best with a swim of 2:34.16.
