
RADFORD FALLS AT NO. 1 NORTH CAROLINA; SETS DEFENSIVE SAVES RECORD

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman Camaron Watkins scored her first collegiate goal. senior Sidney Encarnacion made a season-high 15 saves, and Radford recorded a school-record seven defensive saves, but the Highlanders were defeated by No. 1 North Carolina, 8-1 on Sunday afternoon from Francis E. Henry Stadium.

Watkins strike came in the 60th minute as she pounced on a rebound and put it in the back of the cage for the Highlanders' (1-4) lone score. 11 of Encarnacion's saves came in the first half keeping the top-ranked Tar Heels (6-0) to just three goals. She was also helped out by defensive effort that featired Radford's school-record seven defensive saves.

Senior Alayna Versage, junior Jordan Vrhovac and junior Jennifer Hedrick recorded two defensive saves each and junior Amy Kinkler notched the other. Versage and Hedrick lead the team with three apiece. Versage is now ranked third all-time with 14, three from setting a new school record.

The top-ranked Tar Heels received goals from six different players, two each by Casey Di Nardo and Nina Notman, as they remained undefeated on the season.

North Carolina took a 3-0 lead into half and posted five more in the second stanza.
