BLACKSBURG, Va. – Teresa Williamson set the school record for the women's mile Friday night to highlight Radford track and field's opening day of the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech at Rector Field House.
Â
Since 2001, Kara Price has held the school record for the women's mile at 5:01.48, which she ran at the Big South indoor championships. By day's end, Williamson stamped her name on that record by crossing the finish line in 4:57.95 to place third. Her breakthrough performance is the second-best time in the Big South this season.
Â
Emily Marshall bolstered the distance crew's showing with her 10:56.52 PR in the women's 3,000-meter run, while Malina Richardson, Madeline Thomas and Courtney Burton all logged personal bests in the 1,000-meter race. Chaz Porter fueled the men's distance showing by covering the 1,000-meter run in a personal-record 2:33.48 to claim 11th. Eric Graves also established a PR in the race.
Â
Once again, Vincent Wyatt was the center of attention in the 60-meter hurdles where he ran his way to his third victory in as many starts. His time of 7.84 was the fifth-fastest effort in program history. Logan Shumaker followed Wyatt with a personal record of 9.03.
Â
The male throwers delivered superb efforts as well. In just his second meet, Tyler Lamott achieved a personal-record toss of 53-11.00 to place seventh, while Garrett Knudson was right behind at 47-04.25 to take 15th and earn a PR.
Â
The Highlanders finish off the Hokie Invitational Saturday when competition commences at 11 a.m. with the women's pole vault.
