RADFORD ROLLS TO FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN WITH 5-0 SHUTOUT AT LONGWOOD

|

FARMVILLE, Va. - Radford scored early and often building a comfortable 4-0 lead by halftime and cruised to its fifth straight win and ninth unbeaten (7-0-2) in a 5-0 win at Longwood (1-7-1, 0-2-0) on Wednesday night. Stephen Hudgens tallied his second game-winning goal of the season in the third minute to lead RU to a 7-2-2 record overall and a 4-0-0 mark in Big South play.

"Our players prepared and executed very well," Radford head coach Marc Reeves said. "From the opening whistle, we played with quality and obviously got well ahead early in the game. We are also pleased with the way we defended, and we scored some great team goals tonight."

With the shutout, Radford posted its third straight clean sheet and sixth on the season, which leads the Big South.

Each of Radford's five goals on the night came with an assist. With a pair of helpers, Fraser Colmer moved into a tie for the Big South lead with five on the season. Twice Colmer served corner kicks to the head of a teammate to find the back of the net. Neil Martorana scored his first career goal on the first successful corner connection, and Ramzi Dridi notched his first of the season with the lone goal of the second half. Dario Redondo and Krzysztof Nalborski added goals as well.

"We are off to a good start, but must ensure our focus and preparation continues," Reeves said. "We know Campbell has some excellent players and is always a well-organized and well-coached team."

The Highlanders return home Saturday for Homecoming vs. the Camels. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at Cupp Stadium. The men's soccer program will also be celebrating its 40th year of existence at RU to coincide with the game, Homecoming events, and Friday's Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

"I am looking forward to a lot of alumni returning to campus for the Hall of Fame dinner and 40th season celebration events throughout the weekend," Reeves said. "I hope we can have a good performance and get a big crowd to acknowledge them on Saturday night."
