RADFORD SHUTS DOWN ISLANDERS, CLAIMS COASTAL CLASSIC DIVISION TITLE

|

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Behind R.J. Price's season high 21 points and a stifling defensive effort, Radford (4-3) claimed the division title at the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic with a 57-46 win over the hosts, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi (3-3) on Saturday at the American Bank Center. The 46 points by an opponent is the lowest total given up by a Mike Jones coached Highlander team.

"This might have been the best 40 minutes of defense we have played since I have been here," Jones said. "We were completely locked in. I give the credit to my guys. They made it happen."

Radford built an 18-point lead in the first half on 61 percent shooting from the field and 5-9 from behind the three-point line. Price scored 12 of his 21 in the first half and nailed three deep balls. Javonte Green was just 3-8 from the field and scored seven points, but grabbed a season high 15 rebounds in the title game. YaYa Anderson reached double figure scoring for the first time this season with 10.

The Highlanders shot just 31 percent from the field in the second half, but maintained its defensive effort and never allowed Corpus Christi to get closer than five points. Price was named the tournamen's Most Valuable Player.

Radford travels to Blacksburg, Va. to face Virginia Tech on Sunday, December 7.
