GREEN LEADS RADFORD TO HOME WIN OVER SIENA

|

RADFORD, Va. - Led by Javonte Green's 29th career double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, Radford (7-4) remained unbeaten at the Dedmon Center with a 76-66 win over Siena (3-6) on Friday night. Green led three Highlanders in double figures equalling a season high with the 15-rebound performance. R.J. Price and Brandon Holcomb each added 10 points for RU.

The win was the first in four tries for the Highlanders over the Saints, who won the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) last season. The Highlanders advanced to the second round of the tournmament last postseason. Siena defeated Radford in overtime two years ago in the ESPN BracketBusters challenge in Albany, N.Y.

Referencing that tough loss, Radford head coach Mike Jones talked about his team's growth. "When they made their run and tried to come back, we didn't fold. And that is a sign of a team that has matured. Our guys have learned and grown to do the things down the stretch to win games - grab a rebound, block a shot, make a big basket."

In that overtime loss, RU led by eight with under a minute to play, but could not prevent Siena from forcing the extra period. On Friday, the Highlanders closed the game after leading for the final 25 minutes of the contest. Radford took the lead for good on a layup by Taj Owens, 25-24, with just under five minutes to play in the first half. The lead stretched to 38-29 by intermission with Green leading the way with nine points and nine rebounds in the first 20 minutes. Radford held Siena to 29 percent shooting in the first half.

Radford continued to build the lead to as many as 12 in the second half, and after Siena cut the lead to six at 58-52 with 8:24 to play, RU quickly pushed the lead back to a dozen with an 8-2 run over the next three minutes and were never seriously threatened the rest of the way.

Siena's Rob Poole also posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Saints had 26 offensive rebounds, but shot just 30.4 percent from the floor on the night. Marquis Wright added 14, Ryan Oliver 11, and Javion Ogunyemi 10 for Siena.
