HIGHLANDERS CLOSE OUT 6-5 VICTORY OVER CINCINNATI

BOX SCORE WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Blake Sipe drove in three runs, and Radford (2-4) snapped its three-game losing skid Saturday with a 6-5 win over Cincinnati (1-3) at the Wake Forest Invitational. The Highlanders halted a Bearcat rally in the ninth inning to hold on and earn Dylan Nelson (2-0) his second victory of the season. The win also snapped an eight-game streak of losses in neutral site games.

Sipe opened the scoring with a two-run double to right field in the second. He extended the RU lead to 3-1 in the fourth with a sac fly. Josh Reavis and Josh Gardiner each followed with an RBI single, and Aaron Scoville's sac fly made it 6-1 Highlanders after five innings.

"We played pretty well for the first seven innings," Radford head coach Joe Raccuia said. "Dylan gave us another quality start, and we had really good at bats early on."

The score remained that way until the bottom of the ninth.

Cincinnati loaded the bases with no one out and eventually pushed across four runs in the inning, but Michael Costello, who inherited the bases loaded jam, worked out of it to secure the RU victory in a non-save opportunity.

"It was good to see us make a play when adversity was all around us," Raccuia said. "I am happy for our guys to respond after a poor performance yesterday."

Chris Coia pushed his hitting streak to all six games this season and seven games overall with a 1-5 afternoon. The Highlanders got seven hits from seven different players. Zach Woolcock scored three runs.

Nelson was again effective on the mound for his second straight start. He logged 6.1 innings and gave up just one run on four hits. He fanned seven UC batters.

Radford will close out play in the invitational Sunday against the host Demon Deacons. First ptich is set for 4:00 p.m.
