RADFORD, Va. – Junior distance runner Teresa Williamson will get a dream opportunity Sunday when she competes in the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford at Cobb Track in Stanford, Calif.
Annually hosted by the Cardinal, the Payton Jordan is known as one of the nation's premier track and field showcases for long-distance runners.
Entered in the women's 800 meters, Williamson will be one of 59 entrants competing on "The Farm." The event is scheduled for a 4:56 p.m. (PT) start. The field includes three Olympic or World Championship finalists, plus an NCAA champion.
Williamson will be striving to improve her program-record time (2:10.86) in the 800 so she can punch her ticket to Jacksonville, Fla. for the NCAA East Regionals, May 29-31. To qualify, competitors must rank inside the Top 48 in their respective events. Currently, the 48th-ranked time in the East Region is 2:08.33.
