RADFORD, Va. – Junior hurdler Vincent Wyatt will represent Radford track and field at the 2014 NCAA East Preliminary Round to be contested May 29-31 at North Florida's Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

Seeded fifth in the men's 110-meter hurdles, Wyatt qualified for the regional championship meet based on his 13.65 he ran at the Virginia Challenge earlier this month. His top time is a Big South record for the event.

Wyatt will be making his second appearance at the regional championship meet, which determines the qualifiers for the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held June 11-14 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Wyatt narrowly missed advancing to Eugene last year when he placed 13^th.

The top 12 finishers in each event will advance to nationals. If Wyatt advances, he will become the seventh Highlander on the men's side to make the trip to Eugene for the outdoor national championships in program history and first since 2011.

Wyatt, along with 47 other entrants, hit the starting block Friday at 5 p.m. for the first round. Competitors with the top 24 times move on to the quarterfinal round, which is slated for Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Those placing inside the top 12 in the quarterfinals punch their ticket to Eugene.
