CoSIDA RELEASE
RADFORD, Va. – Radford distance runner Teresa Williamson was selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Women's Track & Field / Cross Country Team, which was voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released by the organization Thursday.
Based on securing first-team All-District 3 honors last month, Williamson advanced to the All-America ballot. She becomes the first female in program history to be recognized as an academic All-American.
Williamson concluded her season with seven program records (four indoor and three outdoor). She was the Big South Indoor Championships Most Outstanding Performer, winning the 3,000 and the mile. The junior went on to capture the 1,500 title at the outdoor conference championships, in addition to her second-place showing in the 800.
In the fall, Williamson became Radford's first all-conference cross country runner since 2009. On top of being named the Radford University Female Co-Athlete of the Year, Williamson garnered the Big South women's track athlete of the week twice in 2014.
Williamson, who has a 4.0 GPA in Radford's nursing program, was the only female student-athlete from the Big South to make the team, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their athletic and academic performances.
