RADFORD BACK TO WINNING WAYS, 95-82 PAST BLUE HOSE

|

RADFORD, Va. - Radford head coach Mike Jones tweaked his starting lineup for the first time this season, and it paid dividends as the Highlanders (10-7, 1-2) had five players in double figures to snap a three-game losing streak, 95-82 over Presbyterian (5-12, 1-2), at the Dedmon Center on Saturday afternoon. Javonte Green led RU with 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

After back-to-back double overtime losses on the road, the Highlanders improved to 7-1 at home on the season with one of their best offensive performances. Along with Green's 24, Radford got 17 apiece from YaYa Anderson and R.J. Price, 13 off the bench from Jalen Carethers, and another 10 in a reserve roll for Rashun Davis. Anderson made his first start of the season in place of Davis.

"The lineup change was more about matching what PC does defensively," Jones said. "We wanted to take some pressure off of R.J. as our primary deep threat to loosen up their zone defense. I thought when Rashun came into the game he was extremely effective as a change of pace."

Davis equaled his career high with eight assists and made two of Radford's eight steals. In all, RU dished out 20 assists with five players having at least a pair of helpers.

"We got the ball into the lane and shared the ball really well," Jones said. "We were good playing inside out for good looks. Even when we missed, we did a nice job of getting to the offensive glass to convert second chance points. Our offense has continued to improve all season."

The Highlanders grabbed 15 offensive rebounds. Four of those came from Carethers, whose 13 points were a season high. He finished 5-5 from the field. Radford knocked down a season-high 11 three-pointers on just 22 attempts. Price was 5-7 and Anderson 4-8 from behind the arc. The Highlanders shot 56.1 percent from the field (32-57).

Jordan Downing paced four PC players who reached double figures with a game-high 28. DeSean Murray added 18, and Markus Terry and Davon Bell each had 10. Murray grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Blue Hose.

Radford heads back on the road Thursday at Campbell for a 7:00 p.m. tip in Buies Creek, N.C.
