GREEN AND PRICE LEAD RU TO SIXTH-STRAIGHT WIN

|

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - Javonte Green and R.J. Price combined for 42 points to lead Radford (15-7, 6-3) to its longest winning streak since the 2008-09 season in an 84-77 victory Wednesday at Charleston Southern (12-8, 6-3). Green led RU with 22 points, but it was Price's dagger three-pointer with 1:26 to play that gave RU a two-possession lead after CSU had cut a 17-point deficit to a single point. RU scored its final seven points from the free throw line to secure the win.

With 12:48 remaining, Radford had built a 63-46 advantage, but the Buccaneers would rally to set up Price's heroics. With all the momentum against the Highlanders and the shot clock winding down, Price hit a step-back 25-footer to get Radford back into control of the game's outcome. Price finished the night with 20 points and four three-pointers.

"Our guys willed a win tonight," Radford head coach Mike Jones said. "It wasn't going to be about offense. It was about whichever team bore down and got stops would come away with the win. We just got enough stops. We wore them down and at the end of the game. I truly believe that was the difference."

Radford hit seven of its 10 treys in the first half and shot 55.2 percent from the floor to build a 45-35 lead at intermission. YaYa Anderson finished the night with four from behind the arc to add 14 points. Cameron Jones chipped in with 13 as four Highlanders reached double figures. Green led the team with eight rebounds, and Anderson grabbed a season-high six caroms.

Charleston Southern's senior duo of Saah Nimley (26) and Arlon Haper (13) combined for 39 points. Nimley's steak of four-straight 30-point games came to an end as did the Buccaneers' five-game winning streak.

"This was a great game," Jones said. "They have a lot of firepower. Nimley is one of the hardest guys I have ever had to face as a competitor."

For their respective careers, Green surpassed the 1,700-point mark and Price reached 1,500 in the same game.

Radford returns home for a Saturday showdown with Winthrop. The Eagles and Highlanders are among five teams tied for second place in the Big South standings. Tip is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Dedmon Center.
