HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Charles Coulson's goal in the 28th minute proved to be the difference in Winthrop's 1-0 victory over 25th-ranked Radford in Big South men's soccer action Tuesday night at Eagle Field.
  • The Highlanders missed a golden opportunity in the eighth minute when Finn Tiedemann snuck behind the Winthrop backline for a 1v1 opportunity. The freshman continued his run to the right side of the box before he crossed it to classmate Sivert Daehlie, who forced a save by the Eagles' Fabian Broich.
  • James Skonicki delivered Winthrop's game-winning strike on a set piece, which he drove into the box where Jordi Lluch flicked to Coulson for the tap-in goal.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Radford remains three points ahead of Coastal Carolina and Winthrop for first place in the Big South standings.
  • For the second straight season, the Eagles handed RU its first conference loss by a 1-0 margin.
  • Winthrop has won the last three regular-season meetings, 1-0.

QUOTABLE
  • "As expected, it was a hard-fought conference game against a very talented, tough and well-coached Winthrop team. We created some great chances and were unfortunate not to at least get one goal. We need to be a little calmer and have quality in advanced areas. The important thing is to regroup quickly and get back to preparing for another hard game versus High Point." ~ Radford head coach, Marc Reeves

UP NEXT
  • Radford welcomes High Point to Cupp Stadium, Saturday at 6 p.m., as part of Homecoming Weekend.
