RADFORD TOPPLES PENN STATE FOR FIRST BIG TEN WIN IN PROGRAM HISTORY

GAME INFORMATION
  • Score: Radford 86, Penn State 74
  • Records: Radford (4-2) | Penn State (2-2)
  • Location: Bryce Jordan Center | University Park, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Radford men's basketball team shot a season-high 56 percent, including 62 percent in the second half, to claim an 86-74 victory over host Penn State Tuesday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.
  • It was the program's first-ever win over a Big Ten opponent, and the Highlanders' second road victory over a power conference team this season.
  • Radford hit a season-high 12 3-pointers on 22 attempts (55 percent) in the game, making 5 of 7 in the second half, as the Highlanders pulled away over the final 12 minutes.
  • RU used a 14-3 run over a three and a half minute stretch to build a 70-59 cushion with 8:08 to play.
  • Penn State made a run to get within six with 3:36 left, but Rashun Davis hit the team's final trey with a hand in his face, quieting the crowd and the Highlanders coasted from there.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Cameron Jones led five Radford players in double figures with a game-high 23 points, one shy of his career high. He did set a personal best with five 3-pointers on seven attempts. He was 8 for 11 from the field overall.
  • Davis finished with 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting, while dishing out nine assists.
  • YaYa Anderson posted a season-best 14 points, hitting 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. His four 3-pointers give him 197 for his career, ranking seventh alone on the program's all-time list, passing Whit Holcomb-Faye.
  • Brandon Holcomb recorded his second career double-double, totaling 10 points and a team-best 11 rebounds, along with a season-best three blocks.
  • Ed Polite, Jr. chipped in 13 points for his fourth straight double-digit scoring performance.
  • Radford's final shooting percentage was made more impressive by the fact it started the game 1 for 8 from the field.
  • The Highlanders made 12 of their last 18 shots of the opening half—including a stretch of four out of six 3-pointers to build a 22-11 lead.
  • RU scored the final five points of the half on Jones' fourth 3-pointer and a jumper by Davis to lead 37-34 at intermission.
  • While the starters had their best performance since the season opener, RU's bench continued to contribute, scoring over 30 points for the fifth straight game—33 in this one.
  • Penn State shot 46 percent in the game and outscored RU, 42-34, in the paint. However, the Nittany Lions made just 6 of 22 3-pointers, and the Highlanders had a 15-2 edge in fast-break points.
  • Radford won the rebounding battle, 35-29, led by Holcomb's 11.
  • While there were 17 lead changes in the game, Radford held the edge for over 27 of the 40 minutes.

QUOTABLE
  • "We felt coming in that they had some advantages and we had some advantages and it would be a matter of which team imposed their will on the game, and I thought our guys right from the beginning set the tone and tempo and were able to finish the deal. Anytime you can get a win it's great, no matter who you play. But it's great for these guys to continue to build on their legacy, particularly the senior class, coming in here and trusting that we were going to be relevant one of these days. Those guys have put in the heavy lifting to get us to this point and now for them to reap the benefits and get some wins like this is great." ~ Radford head coach Mike Jones

UP NEXT
  • After six games in 10 days, the Highlanders now get a break for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action Monday, November 30 at home against James Madison.

  • Individual (excluding the Virginia Tech game) and season tickets are on sale and can be purchased here.
