SCORING SUMMARY

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Radford ended its regular season on a high note by toppling No. 21-ranked Elon, 2-0, Wednesday night in non-conference men's soccer action at Rudd Field.
  • Sivert Daehlie delivered the second-fastest goal by the Highlanders this season when he tallied his 11th goal of the 2015 campaign just 42 seconds into the match.
  • Garland Smith scored for the third time this season and first since Oct. 10 at Campbell when he blasted an attempt from the right side of the six-yard box to the lower-left corner of goal. Krzysztof Nalborski assisted on the play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Radford's 13 wins tie for the third-most recorded in program history, matching the 1989 team.
  • The Highlanders' program record for wins in a single season is 15, which was accomplished in 1990 and 1991.
  • Prior to Wednesday night's victory, RU had not won at Elon since the 2004 season.
  • Radford improved to 10-6-3 all-time against the Phoenix, while handing the opposition its first loss at home this season (6-1-0).
  • In their three matches against nationally-ranked opponents, the Highlanders have posted a 1-1-1 ledger.
  • Daehlie's goal was the fourth time RU scored inside the opening 10 minutes, including the third time by him.
  • Radford earned a 14-9 shot advantage, while Elon took a 5-2 favor in corners.
  • Aitor Pouseu Blanco recorded four saves in goal for the Highlanders, who notched their eighth shutout of the season.
  • RU clinched at least the No. 2 seed for next week's Big South tournament after High Point and Coastal Carolina battled to a scoreless draw tonight.

QUOTABLE
  • "I thought, again, our group showed great unity, resilience and real quality at key moments in the game. Elon is a fantastic group that has had a great season, especially at home, so for us to get this result tonight hopefully gains us some more deserved attention. Elon has some great players and is very well coached. I thought our players battled hard defensively all over the field, and we moved the ball with some real speed to create some great chances and score two very good goals. This is a great way to cap our regular season, but we must remain focused on our bigger internal group goals and be fully ready for our home quarterfinal game on Tuesday. Hopefully we can get a great crowd out for the game." ~ Radford head coach, Marc Reeves

UP NEXT
  • Radford hosts a Big South quarterfinal match Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Cupp Stadium.
  • Kickoff has been set for 7 p.m.
  • The opponent will be determined Saturday upon conclusion of the Big South regular season.
