HIGHLANDERS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER TO OPEN SERIES

FOREST CITY, N.C. - Michael Boyle (2-0) continued his impressive start to the season going 7.0 shutout innings and giving up three hits to earn the victory in the opening game of a doubleheader vs. Binghamton on Saturday. RU won the opener 7-1, and ran away with the nightcap 16-4 to secured the series win heading into Sunday's finale. Dylan Nelson (1-1) earned the win in game two.

"We did a good job of scoring early in each game and keeping the pressure on them all day," Radford head coach Joe Raccuia said. "We played solid defense and were really good on the mound in both games."

GAME ONE
Boyle struck out 10 and walked just one in earning his second victory in three starts this season. Aaron Scoville drove in three runs with a pair of hits in three at bats. Shane Johnsonbaugh, Patrick Marshall, and Brad Keen also recorded multi-hit games. Keen notched a career high three hits and drove in a run as well. Josh Reavis was 1-5 with a triple and an RBI.

GAME TWO
Radford took control early with five runs in the first inning and then put up five more runs in both the sixth and eighth innings. Josh Gardiner and Chris Coia were each 3-5 with a pair of runs scored. Coia also drove in two. Four Highlanders drove in at least two runs led by Hunter Higgerson's three RBIs. Danny Hrbek and Scoville both drove in a couple runs. Nelson logged 6.0 innings to earn his first victory of the season. He allowed five hits and three runs while striking out six without a walk.

RU will go for the series sweep on Sunday at noon.
