RESULTS
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ---- The Radford track and field team notched more than 20 top-10 finishes at the Virginia Cup on Saturday at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va.

The Highlanders opened the running events with a fifth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.22. Lora Wilson, Shantel Jones, Reanna Hamm and Jamiecka Baker combined to run Radford's first 400-meter relay of the outdoor season.

Teresa Williamson made her outdoor debut in the 1,500-meter run, taking third place with a 4:37.38. Iona Lake of Virginia won the race in a meet record 4:27.10. Denaya Wolterding and Chandra Wolterding also competed in the event, finishing in 5:14.47 and 5:23.86, respectively.

Williamson tallied a second top-five performance later in the event, taking fourth in the 3,000-meter with a 10:28.14. Madeline Thomas placed right behind Williamson in fifth, running a 10:47.95.

Jessica Shelton tallied the Red and White's third top-five finish of the day on the track, turning in a 14.90 in the 100-meter hurdles to take fifth. Monica Mallory ran a 16.18 to finish just outside the top 10.

The Highlanders posted two top-10 finishes in the 800-meter run, led by Katie Hickey's fourth-place performance in 2:17.58. Malina Richardson's 2:21.66 held for ninth, as Ckareekeea Branch ran a 2:40.72.

Cara Myrtle continued the roll of top-10's for Radford, taking seventh as the lone Highlander running in the 400-meter hurdle with a 1:07.75

Courtney Burton had one of the Red and White's highest finishes of the competition, running a 7:59.71 to take third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.

Radford concluded its day on the track with a pair of teams in the 4x400-meter relay. The combination of Hamm, Wolterding, Callie O'Connell and Myrtle posted a 4:05.86 to take sixth. Richardson, Chandra Goodson, Hickey and Thomas took eighth with a 4:24.43.

Emmalene Hale led the Highlanders in the hammer throw, taking fifth with a mark of 42.88m (140-08.00). Naihla Rose-Delia finished just behind Hale in sixth, recording a throw of 35.94m (117-11.00).

In the discus, Radford had a trio of top-10 performers in Shania Williams, Hale and Rose-Delia. Williams' 38.17m (125-002.00) held for seventh, as Hale recorded a distance of 35.97m (118-00.00) for eighth. Rose-Delia rounded out the top 10 with a 31.67m (103-11.00).

Katy Harriman led the team in the high jump, taking fifth with a jump of 1.54m (05-00.50). Shelton and Mallory tied in seventh with a height of 1.49m (04-10.50).

In the jumps, Baker took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.31m (37-01.25). Morgan Harris finished in sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.38m (17-08.00).

Williams built on her second-place finish last weekend at the USF Invite with a third-place performance in the shot put. She had a put of 13.09m (42-11.50). Rose-Delia's heave of 12.58m (41-03.25 ) finished fifth.

Mallory and Shelton closed the field events in the javelin, taking eighth and ninth respectively. Mallory had a mark of 22.50m (73-10.00), as Shelton recorded a distance of 20.74m (68-00.50).

Jones and Wilson took 13th and 14th in the 100-meter dash, running a 12.84 and 12.90, respectively. Hamm went 25.84 in the 200 meters as teammate O'Connell went 27.38 in the event.Â

The Highlanders are slated for the their first split weekend, sending competitors to both the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., and the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., from March 27-28.
