RADFORD CLINCHES SERIES OVER DUKES

|

RADFORD, Va. - Radford (32-14) opened the game with three straight doubles from Shane Johnsonbaugh, Josh Reavis, and Patrick Marshall to open a 3-0 lead before Marshall's grand slam in the second pushed the lead to 7-0, and the Highlanders rolled past James Madison (16-27) for the second straight day, 11-3, at RU Baseball Stadium. Dylan Nelson (6-3) pitched 7.0 strong innings to secure the win on the mound.

Marshall finished the day 3-4 with three runs scores and five RBI to lead an RU offense that scored double-digit runs in back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Highlanders scored a season-high 22 runs on Friday. Johnsonbaugh and Chris Coia joined Marshall with three hits on the day. Coia's two-run single in the sixth gave Radford a 9-0 lead.

"Our offensive execution in the first two innings was outstanding," Radford head coach Joe Raccuia said. "We took really good approaches at the plate, and Nelson put up some quick zeroes for us on the defensive end.  It's important for us to get leads and keep the pressure on early when you have a team on the ropes. It set the tone for the day, and we played really well."

Nelson threw only 79 pitches in one his most effiecient outings of the season. He gave up six hits and a run while walking one and striking out four.

Josh Wyatt (2-3) recorded two of JMU's six hits. Kevin Husum and Chad Carroll each knocked in a run and each were 1-3 at the plate. Aaron Hoover (4-4) allowed seven runs on six hits in 5.0 innings pitched and took the loss for the Dukes.

With his five runs driven in, Marshall extended his Big South RBI lead with 46 on the season.

Radford and JMU will finish the series Sunday in Harrisonburg at Veterans Memorial Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
