ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sydney Tekstra and Maddie Palmer guided Radford to its first series sweep of the 2016 season and its 12th sweep overall with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23) decision over Winthrop, Saturday evening as the duo combined for 28 of Radford's 45 kills.

Winthrop looked to get on the Highlanders early in the opening set, rattling off the first three points. The Highlanders stormed back as newly entered Tekstra collected two quick kills, pulling Radford within 12-10.

Following Tekstra's kill, Emma Wroblicky came into the match to serve. Wroblicky started a four-point swing for the Highlanders as Winthrop committed four consecutive errors. The four errors aided Radford to a 14-12 lead.

Tekstra continued her hot streak as three kills in a row handed Radford a 23-19, while forcing an Eagles' timeout. Palmer's fifth kill of the opening set sealed Radford's 16th opening set win on the season with a 25-21 victory.

The second set saw the Highlanders get off to a quick start as two straight kills by Lidija Mamic gave the Highlanders a 6-3 lead to open the set. An 8-4 Highlander run midway through the set, extended the lead to 19-12. Haley Kleespies and Palmer switched roles as Palmer set up a Kleespies kill, giving Radford a seven-point lead.

Winthrop did not go away without a fight as a 7-1 run pulled the Eagles within 20-19 of the Highlanders. Radford committed four errors during the run.

Mallory McKnight entered the match and ended the Winthrop rally with her lone kill of the match. The McKnight kill sparked the Highlanders as Palmer followed with an ace and Stephanie Neast and Tekstra teamed up for a pair kills in a 25-21 set win.

Trailing 8-7 in the third set, Wroblicky kept the Highlander attack alive with two diving digs, while Radford gained momentum to go on a five-point swing. Two kills by Palmer in the run forced a Winthrop timeout, trailing 12-8.

Radford looked to close out the series sweep over Winthrop, but the two foes traded points as the Highlanders were unable to separate themselves. The back line of Kaylor Nash, Kelby Jackson and Palmer fended off a late Eagle attack. The Highlanders were able hold off the charge as Palmer collected four of Radford's final eight points for the fifth Big South sweep of the season.
