TEKSTRA'S CAREER NIGHT LEADS RADFORD TO COMEBACK WIN

RADFORD, Va. – Sydney Tekstra compiled 12 of her career-high 22 kills in the final two sets as Radford battled back for a 3-2 (25-17, 22-25, 21-25, 25-16, 18-16) Big South victory over UNC Asheville to remain perfect inside the Dedmon Center.
 
After capturing a 25-17 opening set victory, Radford fell behind two sets to one. During the second set, UNC Asheville finished with a .333 attacking percentage, while holding the Highlanders to a .135 clip. The third set saw the Bulldogs block four Radford attempts as the Highlanders only managed a .132 percentage.
 
Looking to hand Radford its second conference loss of the season, UNC Asheville jumped out to another commanding set lead with a 7-3 advantage. Not going down without a fight, Radford stormed back to take a 11-9 lead on four Bulldog errors and three Tekstra kills.
 
The Highlanders used a 7-2 run to extend their lead to 19-12. Tekstra was responsible for five of the final seven points as Radford forced a fifth set with a dominating 25-16 victory.
 
Radford's backline played lights out in the set as UNC Asheville finished with 43 attacks. The trio of Kaylor Nash, Kelby Jackson and Emma Wroblicky fended off 16 Bulldog attacks. Wroblicky led the way with six digs in the set, while Nash and Jackson finished with five digs.
 
For the fourth straight set, UNC Asheville raced out to an early lead. Four Radford errors gave the Bulldogs a commanding 9-4 lead.
 
Trailing 14-13, UNC Asheville's match point was spoiled by a Valerie Gonzalez kill, which was followed by another Tekstra kill. The two foes would trade points, before looking at a 16-16 score as neither team could gain much ground.
 
Jackson fought off a Shelby Erickson attack, leading to Tekstra's fourth kill of the set, handing Radford a 17-16 edge. Radford sealed the comeback victory with a Mallory McKnight solo block for an 18-16 match victory.
 
With 12 assists in the opening set, Kleespies moved into sole possession of fourth all-time in Radford history during the rally scoring era.

  • Radford improved to 15-1 when winning the opening set.
  • The comeback 3-2 victory is the second on the season for the Highlanders with the first coming in the season opener against Wake Forest.
  • Sydney Tekstra and Maddie Palmer combined for 46 of Radford's 68 kills.

  • Kleespies totaled 56 assists in the match.
  • Radford totaled seven blocks in the match, Amaya Rousseau assisted on five blocks, giving her 74 on the season.
