RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team capped off its regular-season championship campaign in style Thursday night, sweeping past Charleston Southern 25-19, 25-18, 25-17 to finish off a perfect 11-0 home season.

The Highlanders also avenged one of their only two conference losses and recorded their 13th sweep of the year. The 23 regular-season wins are the most for the program since the 2000 campaign, while the 14 conference victories are the highest total since the 2001 squad went 14-0 in league play. It is the second time in three years that Radford has gone unbeaten at home.

Early on, Charleston Southern built an 11-8 edge in the first set before Radford went on a 6-1 run to take a two-point lead. Three CSU attack errors started it and a kill by Mallory McKnight was followed by two from Amaya Rousseau. The Buccaneers tied it at 16-16, but the Highlanders tallied 9 of the final 12 points of the set. Stephanie Neast had three kills of her four kills in during the closing spurt, while Rousseau led the way with five total.

Radford didn't trail at any point during the final two sets, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the second as Maddie Palmer recorded a block and a kill and Kelby Jackson added an ace. Charleston Southern got as close as 12-9, but the Highlanders scored five of the next six points on aces by Jackson and Kleespies around two more Palmer kills for a 17-10 lead. Sydney Tekstra then followed with four kills in a span of seven points and McKnight added two to help put it away. Tekstra had five kills in the set.

In the third, Radford used a 4-0 run, getting kills from Haley Kleespies, Rousseau and Neast to build an 11-7 edge. After CSU got within two, the Highlanders followed with five straight, led by three kills from Neast and one by Palmer for a comfortable 18-11 margin. Radford went on to finish the set hitting a match-high .387, led by Neast's five kills on six attacks. Aces by Kaylor Nash and McKnight then set up match point and Palmer finished it off with a solo block.

QUOTABLE
  • "It's always nice when you go undefeated at home. We got lucky with the conference schedule. It was really tough in the beginning with so many matches, but we got to play our last three at home. It was nice to avenge one of our losses as well, and especially have a win going into the conference tournament, which I thought was really important to do. " ~ Radford head coach, Marci Jenkins
