RADFORD POSTS PERSONAL BESTS IN OUTDOOR OPENER

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Katy Harriman and Jessica Shelton continued their successful track campaigns by setting personal bests on the opening day of Radford's first outdoor meet at the Winthrop Invitational on Friday.
Harriman had her best career performance in the high jump – outdoor or indoor – by clearing the bar at 1.67 meters (5-5.75) on her third attempt. Her previous best outdoor mark was 1.58 meters two years ago. The junior had personal-best indoor height of 1.65 on three occasions during the winter. Harriman was of three athletes with a top clearance of 1.67 meters in Friday's competition as she placed fourth overall.
Shelton also had a strong day, posting her best-ever distance in the shot put, while additionally advancing to the finals of the 100-meter hurdles. She recorded a distance of 10.92 meters (35-10) in the shot and clocked 14.64 to place fifth in the hurdle preliminaries.
Also in the 100 hurdles, teammate Monica Mallory clocked 15.52 seconds, just .03 off of her personal best. Mallory won her heat and was 15th overall in the field of 32.
In the field, Naihla Rose-Delia turned in a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 13.19 meters (43-3.25). She also placed in the top of half of the field in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 45.89 meters (150-7) to take 14th.
The meet resumes Saturday at 9 a.m., beginning in the field with the triple jump and javelin.
