RADFORD REBOUNDS WITH SWEEP BEHIND STRONG SERVING

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Radford volleyball team bounced back from its Friday night loss to sweep past Hampton 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 early Saturday as part of the Spartan/Aggie Invitational.

The Highlanders (7-2) never trailed at any point in the match en route to recording their sixth sweep of the season, although the first set remained tight most of the way. RU held an 18-16 edge before pulling away with seven of the last nine points. Maddie Palmer had a pair of kills in that span and closed out the game with a solo block.

Radford then scored the first three points of the second set on kills by Kelby Jackson, Kaylor Nash and Palmer, before breaking it open with a 9-2 run to build an 18-10 cushion. Nash started the spurt with back-to-back aces and Palmer ended it the same way. Valerie Gonzalez then put the game away with a pair of kills.

The third set was more of the same as the Highlanders again took a 3-0 lead, saw Hampton stay close until midway through and then pulled away. Two kills by Stephanie Neast, one each by Nash and Gonzalez and aces by Palmer and Valerie Ernat helped combine for an 8-2 run that made it 21-13. Palmer added her final kill and a pair of Hampton attack errors ended the match.
