HARRISONBURG, Va. – Trailing 1-0 midway through the second half, No. 20 Radford used three second half goals, including Victor Valls' first collegiate goal in the 77th minute as the Highlanders held on for 3-1 win over Commonwealth foe James Madison in the first meeting since 2002.

The Dukes held an 8-2 shot advantage in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net. James Madison broke the scoreless match on a Niclas Mohr low free kick in the 53rd minute past a diving Aitor Pouseu Blanco.

Radford knotted the match in the 67th minute as Michael Walsh was fouled inside the box. Sivert Daehlie took the penalty kick, finding net for his fourth goal of the season.

Ten minutes later, Valls took a shot from outside the box, sneaking it just inside the right post for the game winning goal. Valls' lone shot of the evening came when it mattered most, giving the Highlanders a 2-1 lead.

Pouseu Blanco came up with a big save in the 86th minute as Connor Coward attempted to send the match into overtime. Jakob Strandsäter made sure the Highlanders would not be heading to their second consecutive overtime match as his second goal of the year capped off Radford's 3-1 comeback victory.

QUOTABLE
  • "This was a tough midweek road game, that I thought we handled pretty well. James Madison has a strong team and when they went took the lead off a free kick, we had to show some character to not panic. We found a way to get another good win and now must move on quickly for an exceptionally good Coastal Carolina team." ~ Radford head coach Marc Reeves.

UP NEXT
  • The Highlanders will return home on Saturday, hosting former Big South foe Coastal Carolina for a 6 p.m. meeting.
  • The two squads finished with 0-0 draw in the last matchup on Oct. 31, 2015.
