HIGHLANDERS FALL SHORT AGAINST LIBERTY IN NEAST’S CAREER HIGH NIGHT

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team fell short against Liberty in five sets on Tuesday night at the Dedmon Center as Stephanie Neast recorded a career-high 24 kills.
 
Neast had a .333 hitting percentage and tallied 24 kills, which led all players. Five of them came in the first set as the Highlanders fell 22-24. Radford took a 9-4 lead but the Flames stormed back and took a 13-9 lead with a 9-0 run. The lead increased to 17-10, which lead to the 25-22 first set win.
 
The kill parade continued for Neast as she tallied five more kills in the second set. The Highlanders took a 3-2 lead and ran away with it. Radford secured a 10-point lead on an Alyssa Carruth service ace making the score, 21-11. Radford controlled a back-and-forth 10-point lead four more times with the last coming on a Maci Keaton kill ending the set at 25-15 and tied the sets at one apiece.
 
The third set was neck-and-neck for the first 20 points as the teams were deadlocked, 10-10. The Flames went on a 7-1 run and took a 17-11 lead. Radford made a push as they thundered back with a 9-3 run tying the set at 20. However, Liberty scored five of the final seven points taking a two to one set lead. Neast totaled seven kills in the set putting her total at 17, which tied a career-high.
 
The sophomore added five more in the fifth set as the Highlanders recorded 13 kills as a team. Radford pulled away with a 10-9 lead taking a commanding 25-14 victory. The fifth set saw six ties and three lead changes. With the set tied at ten, the Flames tallied four kills from three different players and took advantage of one Highlander attack error. The fifth set victory for the Flames clinched the match.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
•  Stephanie Neast was lights out and earned with a career-high 24 kills. She led all players and recorded a .333 hitting percentage.
•  Maddie Palmer recorded her 10th double-double this season with 11 kills and tied at team-high 16 digs.
•  Haley Kleespies recorded another double-double with 48 assists and 16 digs. She also contributed four kills and a service ace.
•  Kaylor Nash recorded 10 digs and Alyssa Carruth contributed with 12 of her own.
•  Valerie Gonzalez was in the double-digit dig column with 10 kills.
•  Maci Keaton recorded four total blocks, which led the team.
•  Amaya Rousseau added seven kills and led the team with a .400 hitting percentage.
•  Madison Trypuc recorded her first kill and dig as a Highlander, seeing her first collegiate action.
•  The Highlanders outhit the Flames, .207-.172 but fell had less blocks (10.0-6.0).

Radford returns to the court on Saturday evening with a visit to Clinton, S.C., to face Presbyterian. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
