RADFORD LACROSSE DROPS SEASON OPENER DUE TO SECOND HALF PUSH



GAME INFORMATION

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford lacrosse team went into halftime with a 6-5 lead, but were outscored by Saint Francis, 10-4, in the second half and dropped the season opener, 15-10, on Sunday afternoon at Cupp Stadium.
 
The Highlanders (0-1) went into the locker room with a 6-5 lead at the end of the first half, but Saint Francis (1-1) stormed back with three quick goals just over four minutes into the second half.
 
Radford cut it to a one-goal match twice in the second half, as Adrian Rius hit a goal with 23:51 in the second half and Callie Bonnel made it an 11-10 game with 8:04 left in the game.
 
The Red Flash closed the game with four straight goals in the final eight minutes. Holly Lawrence tallied six goals in today's match, which led all scorers.
 
Colleen O'Connell scored the opening goal of the game as she converted on a free position shot. Saint Francis scored three straight goals and took a 3-1 lead with 19:20 left in the first half. The Highlanders scored two straight and tied it at three.
 
With 12:02 to go and the match tied at four, Emma Rogers and Bonnel scored back-to-back goals, which gave the Highlanders a halftime lead.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
•  Adrian Rius matched a career-high in goals, as she found the back of the net four times. The last time she scored four goals was at Gardner-Webb on March 30, 2016.
•  Callie Bonnel added three goals and one assist in today's match, which totaled four points.
•  Colleen O'Connell added four points with two goals and two assists.
•  Freshman goalkeeper, Maddie Mashewske, led all players with nine saves.
•  Avery Reding caused two turnovers and led the team with five ground ball pick ups.

QUOTABLE
"We are pleased with our improvements from last year. Today we played hard but we fouled too much and didn't play our typical game on the draw circle. We will make a few adjustments in the next few days as we prepare for LIU Brooklyn." ~ Radford head coach Haley Marvine
