CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Jonathan Gonzalez gave the Highlanders an early 2-0 lead with a home run in the first inning, but No. 9 North Carolina scored seven unanswered handing Radford a 9-3 loss, Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.

Danny Hrbek hit a one-out single to center field in the top of the first. Next up, Gonzalez blasted a no-doubt two-run home run to left-center field to give Radford (1-5) the early lead.

North Carolina (6-0) scored seven unanswered runs in the second and third innings, which gave them a 7-2 lead. Kyle Datres plated two with a double down the left field line in the second and two more runs scored on a fielding error and a fielders' choice, which made it a 4-2 game.

Back-to-back singles from Datres and Ashton McGee followed by a throwing error gave the Tar Heels a five-run lead. Datres finished the game 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs.

The Highlanders answered with a run in the seventh inning as Adam Whitacre scored on a Spencer Horwitz RBI groundout to the pitcher. North Carolina scored two more in the eighth on a single and sacrifice fly.

Ausitn Gerber was stellar on the mound in relief. He went 4.1 innings with only two runs allowed on two hits and three strikeouts.
