RADFORD ROLLS TO 7-1 WIN OVER GEORGIA STATE

ATLANTA, Ga. – Led by a big day at the plate by Brittany Wratchford and another strong pitching performance from Abby Morrow, the Radford softball team cruised to a 7-1 victory over host Georgia State on Sunday.

The Highlanders capped off a second straight winning weekend on the road and improved to 6-4 on the season heading into Wednesday's home opener against Virginia Tech.

Wratchford went 2 for 3 with a double and a three-run home run, giving her a career-high three RBIs. She also scored two runs. Sofia Tapia reached base all four times, going 2 for 2 with two walks, two RBIs and two stolen bases, while Hannah Medlam added two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Morrow notched her third victory of the weekend and was dominant for a second straight day, allowing just the one run on six hits while striking out four with one walk.

Radford broke a scoreless tie with top of the fourth with five runs on five hits. A one-out error and a walk opened the door and the Highlanders capitalized with three straight hits. Summer Robinson provided the first run with an RBI single down the left-field line, Medlam singled up the middle to make it 2-0 and Wratchford followed by homering over the centerfield fence, her first of the season and second of her career.

Georgia State (10-6) spoiled Morrow's bid for a second shutout in a row in the sixth, using a pair of singles around a sacrifice, but Tapia provided the game's final two runs with her two-run single in the seventh. Wratchford started it with a leadoff double before Marissa Gagliano walked and stole second to get into scoring position.

Morrow, meanwhile, allowed just singles for the second straight game, had three perfect frames and recorded 16 groundball outs, along with the four strikeouts.

First pitch for Wednesday's matchup against Virginia Tech at Radford Softball Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
