WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Anthony Miano collected his first career home run in the top of the eighth on a pinch hit three-run shot to left-center field as Radford fell 18-7 to Wake Forest, Sunday afternoon at Couch Ballpark.

In the loss, Radford collected eight hits, compared to Wake Forest's 21 hits. The two teams combined to leave 21 runners on base, while the Demon Deacons collected nine extra base hits.

For the fifth time on the season, Radford scored first as Matt Roth led off the second inning with a hit by pitch and Richard De la Cruz followed with a single to left field. His fourth hit in the last five at bats.

With two runners on base and no outs, Kyle Butler put down a sacrifice bunt in front of Wake Forest starter Drew Loepprich. Loepprich fielded the ball, throwing to third base in an attempt to get a sliding Roth. The throw was wild, allowing Roth and De la Cruz to score as Butler trotted into second base.

Radford was unable to take advantage of a runner on second with no outs. The Highlanders ended the inning on two strikeouts and a ground out.

The Demon Deacons answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning as Ben Breazeale led off the frame with a 12-pitch double to right-center, later scoring on a Logan Harvey double. Wake Forest knotted the game at two in the bottom half of the third inning on a Ben Breazeale RBI double.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, Radford regained the lead in the top half of the fifth. David Laird struck out swinging, but reached safely on a wild throw by the Demon Deacon catcher, advancing to second on the errant throw. Adam Whitacre followed with a bunt single to put Highlanders on the corners.

Danny Hrbek grounded into a double play to score Laird easily as Radford regained a 3-2 lead.

The lead was short lived as Wake Forest took control, tallying nine combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings on nine hits. The nine runs were highlighted by a Gavin Sheets three-run home run in the fifth and a Bruce Steel grand slam in the sixth inning.

Radford put two runners on base in the eighth as Miano ended the Demon Deacon streak of 10 unanswered runs with his three-run home run that soared 402 feet out of the ballpark.

The Demon Deacons closed out the game with their second six-run inning in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by the second grand slam on the day, this time coming off the bat of Zach Seal.

Mack Krupp made his Radford debut as a hitter in the ninth, blooping a single over the first baseman's head to score Straton Podaras, who reached earlier on a walk.

Scoring 16 runs in the fifth through eighth innings, Wake Forest took a 18-6 win in the ninth all-time meeting between the two foes.
