ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Radford women's lacrosse fell to Winthrop, 18-9, on Saturday afternoon at Eagle Field in Rock Hill, S.C.

The Highlanders scored the first goal of the game when Adrian Rius found the back of the net just a little under a minute into the game to put Radford (5-7, 1-2 Big South) in front, 1-0. That was the only time the Highlanders had a lead as Winthrop (4-9, 1-2 Big South) tied it at one with a free position goal. The Eagles took the lead with 21:42 as Ellie Marindin scored a goal making it a 2-1 game.

Following another Eagle score, Rius scored her second goal of the game and cut the deficit to one goal. Radford fell victim to a 7-0 run from 19:20 to 10:24 in the first half that pushed the score to 10-2 in favor of Winthrop. Emily Kowalik ended the run as she converted a scoring opportunity for her 17th goal of the season.

Emma Rogers added another goal sandwiched in between two Winthrop goals before halftime, but the Eagles secured a 12-4 lead at the half. Winthrop scored the fist goal of the second half and the teams traded goals until midway through the second half when Katie Clark scored after a Nicole Beatson goal. The back-to-back goals gave the Eagles a 17-7 lead with 9:03 to play. In that time frame, Callie Bonnel scored three goals for the Highlanders.

Rogers and Lindsey Carroll recorded the final two goals of the game after Winthrop made it an 18-7 game.

QUOTABLE
"In spite of a few loses this season, Winthrop is a very tough opponent. That being said we did not take care of the ball enough today and costly turnovers continue to be our downfall. Maddie (Mashewske) did a nice job for us in cage and Callie (Bonnel) was a true leader today as she made some key hustle plays." ~ Radford head coach, Haley Marvine.
