RADFORD, Va. – Radford was unable to secure its fifth Big South series win on the season as Winthrop scored seven straight runs after the Highlanders took an early lead, earning their 30th win on the season with a 7-3 victory, Friday night inside Carter Memorial Stadium.

The Highlanders were held to three hits through the first seven innings, while the Eagles tallied seven runs on nine hits during the span.

Radford scored first for the 26th time on the season as the Highlanders loaded the bases in the second on a Spencer Horwitz single with walks by Anthony Miano and Clayton Baine. The run came on a Luke Wise bases loaded walk as the redshirt-junior won a seven-pitch at bat.

The 1-0 lead was short lived as Hunter Lipscomb handed the Eagles a lead not to be surrendered on a two-RBI single to center field as Winthrop tallied three hits in the frame.

The Eagles added two more runs in the fifth as a Radford error and Anthony Paulsen double set up an RBI opportunity for the Eagles. The two runs came on a Mitch Spires single and Lipscomb fielders' choice.

Winthrop starter Nate Pawelczyk combined with Riley Arnone to retire the Highlanders in order five times on the evening.

Arnone worked out of a jam in the fifth as Radford put two runners in scoring position after Adam Whitacre and Baine reached via singles, moving up on a Kyle Butler ground out. Radford chance to pull within one on a base hit, but Danny Hrbek grounded out to end the threat.

Three more runs came across to score in the seventh as Winthrop collected three hits. Spires provided his second RBI on the day with a double and Lipscomb's career day continued with another two-RBI single, pushing the advantage to 7-1.

Andrew Nardi was able to put a stop to the Winthrop scoring as the sophomore lefty struck out five of the six batters he faced in two innings of relief.

Radford's final two runs of the game came in the eighth as Whitacre led off the inning with a bunt single and Butler followed with a bleeding double down the right field line. Following a Hrbek strikeout, Jonathan Gonzalez ripped a 1-2 pitch into the left-center field gap, plating two runs.

The two runs would be all the Highlanders could muster, dropping game two 7-3 as the Eagles remained atop the Big South standings.
