MARINO PROMOTED TO DIRECTOR OF BASKETBALL OPERATIONS

RADFORD, Va. – One of the hardest working staff members in all of Radford Athletics, Jaren Marino, has been promoted to Director of Basketball Operations for the Radford men's basketball program, effective immediately.

"I can't thank Coach Jones enough for giving me the opportunity last year to join his staff at Radford University," said Marino. "I am especially appreciative of his mentorship and now allowing me to take on this expanded role with the team. I am very proud of the success we had this past year and look forward to building off it."

Marino joined the program as Assistant Director of Basketball Operations prior to the 2017-18 season and played an integral role in Radford's most successful season to date. With his help, the Highlanders earned their third Big South title and secured the first NCAA Tournament victory in program history en route to a record 23 wins.

In his role, Marino oversees the daily operations of the men's basketball program, including the logistics of budget, game-day management, coordination of managers' duties, team travel arrangements and equipment coordination.

"Jaren is extremely hard working, is very organized and has an engaging personality," said Radford men's basketball coach Mike Jones. "All of these qualities make him the ideal fit for the position. His familiarity with the program and how we do things, as well as our players' familiarity with him, makes this a seamless transition. I'm looking forward to seeing him grow in this role and in his career."

Before moving to the New River Valley, Marino spent the 2016-17 season at Louisburg College. The Hurricanes posted a 30-5 record with a 19-1 conference record and made it to the NJCAA National Championship.

Marino began his coaching career at his alma mater as a student assistant from 2015-2016 and finished his degree in 2016. Some of his duties included scouting, strength and conditioning, player development, practice and in-game coaching, and assisting with summer camps.

Marino played for West Virginia Tech from 2011 to 2015, and earned a starting role his last three seasons. He also served as team captain his junior and senior years. Named to the All-Conference team twice, and scoring over 1,000 points during his collegiate career, led his team to the 2012 regular season conference championship and to the NAIA National Tournament in 2015. During his time at Tech, he was a part of teams that averaged over 20 wins per season.

Radford kicks off the 2018-19 season on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. when Davis & Elkins comes to the Dedmon Center. Season tickets are on sale now and individual games/flex plans will be on sale soon. For more information, visit RadfordAthletics.com and RadfordTickets.com.
