RADFORD OUTLASTS CAMPBELL IN FOUR SETS

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team outlasted a pesky Campbell team and picked up a four set victory on Saturday inside the Dedmon Center.

The Highlanders had a great team effort as a trio of players recorded double-digit kills and double-digit digs. Grace Green compiled a team-high 19 digs, while Valerie Gonzalez recorded her third double-double of the season with 15 kills and 15 digs. The 15 kills were a match-high for the senior.

SET 1
Radford took an early 8-3 lead, but the Fighting Camels fought back and eventually took a 10-9 lead. Both teams battled back and forth, but the Highlanders went on a 5-0 run with the set tied at 15. During the run, Campbell committed four errors and Gonzalez added a kill that gave Radford a 20-15 advantage. The Camels cut the lead to one, 22-21, but a Kylie Tuxford kill and two attack errors gave Radford a 25-21 first set win.

SET 2
The second set looked to be all Highlanders as they jumped out to a 10-point lead (19-9). However, the Camels kept diminishing the Highlander lead. Campbell scored three straight to cut the lead to seven, 19-12. After Radford scored a point, the Camels scored two more to cut it to six, 20-14. Each team traded five more points, that ended with a Haley Kleespies kill that gave the Highlanders a two-set lead with a 25-19 victory in the second set.

SET 3
Each team led by four at one point in the set, which was the largest lead from either team. Campbell took a 6-2 lead early in the set and Radford's four-point lead came midway in the set at 16-12. After the four point lead there were seven ties. The final tie came late in the set at 24. A kill by Jessica Stocking and an attack error by Gonzalez gave Campbell its first set win, 26-24.

SET 4
Campbell came out with three quick points in the fourth set, but Radford battled back and eventually took a 12-10 lead midway through the set thanks to two Campbell attack errors. The Highlanders only lost the lead one time, but regained it at 14-13 thanks to back-to-back kills from Mallory McKnight and Gonzalez. From that point on the Highlanders never lost the lead and clinched the win with a 26-24 fourth set victory.

MOMENT THAT MATTERED
With the fourth set tied at 24, Radford had a long rally that ended in a controversial Amaya Rousseau kill. Following a challenge that went in favor of the Highlanders, the kill stood and gave Radford a 25-24 lead. Immediately after the call was made Gonzalez served the ball right at Jessica Stocking that bounced off her hands for the match-clinching ace.

STAT OF THE MATCH
Each team had a surprising 10 service aces, but Radford had 15 more kills than the Camels (57-42) and 13 more digs (66-53).

Gonzalez led with 15 kills, while McKnight was right behind her with 14 and freshman Tuxford added 12. Green and Kleespies combined for seven of the Highlanders 10 service aces. The trio of players that had double-digit digs were Alyssa Carruth with 13, Gonzalez with 15 and Green with 19.
