RADFORD FALLS VICTIM IN WALK-OFF LOSS TO UNCW

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Radford softball team dropped a 5-4 walk-off heartbreaker to UNCW on Saturday at Daughtridge Stadium in the second day of the First Pitch Classic.

Down 2-4 in the top of the seventh with two outs, Sofia Tapia singled to first base. The next batter was Hunter Mundy, who blasted a pitch to center field that landed over the fence and tied the game at four.

The two out hitting continued for Radford (5-2) as Maggie Rowe singled through the left side. Hannah Medlam reached base thanks to an error by the UNCW (1-0) second baseman. Next up, Talia Douglas singled down the left field line that placed runners on each base with two outs. A swinging strikeout ended the scoring threat with the bases loaded.

The Seahawks rallied in the bottom of the seventh as Kelsey Bryan singled to first base on a bunt and scored the winning run via a walk-off double down the left field line by Hannah Adamcyzk.

The Highlanders fell behind 2-0 when Meghan Whitecavage cleared the bases with a two-run single to left center field in the bottom of the second. However, Radford cut the lead in half thanks to Maggie Rowe's double to right field that scored Mundy in the top of the third.

In the fifth inning, the Seahawks took their largest lead of the game in the fifth inning with one swing of the bat as Lacey Fox hit a two-run shot to left field and made the score 4-1. The Highlanders answered once again with a Talia Douglas triple to right field that scored pinch runner Callie Morgan cutting the Seahawk lead to two, 2-4.

Sarah Davis (1-0) picked up the win in the circle. She allowed nine hits and four earned runs. Davis also suffered four walks, but struck out seven batters. Abby Morrow (3-1) suffered her first loss of the season and allowed five earned runs on seven hits.

QUOTABLE
"We had another game where we outhit our opponent, we just didn't have the timely hits. There were too many defensive miscues, we have to be ready and more disciplined on defense and that will come. We are playing well, we just need to keep improving and things will fall in place." ~ Hope Creasy
