RADFORD, Va. – Radford completed its first Big South series sweep with a 6-3 Sunday afternoon decision over Presbyterian as the Highlanders' sweep was aided by a five-run opening frame.

With only one sweep on the season – against Youngstown State that came in March, Radford had already secured its fourth straight conference series win, while looking for its first league sweep.

Radford opened the game up with a five-run, five-hit first inning. Luke Wise kicked off the frame with a single up the middle. Runners were put on the corners after Kyle Butler hit a ground ball to shortstop, but the throw to second was dropped, resulting in Wise scooting into third on the Butler fielders' choice.

Following Radford's first out of the inning, Matt Roth started a streak of four straight singles as his base hit through the left side plated Wise for the junior's 30th RBI of the year.

Colby Higgerson and Straton Podaras followed with RBI singles for the 3-0 lead. Podaras would move up on a wild pitch, putting two Highlanders in scoring position for Garrett Matheny.

Matheny delivered as his single to left plated Higgerson, while moving to second one pitch later on a passed ball. Radford first four runs came on the four straight singles. Anthony Miano pushed across the fifth run on a RBI ground out.

Collecting his first win of the season a week ago, Radford starter Ryan Sande was handed a comfortable five-run lead early in the game. However, Presbyterian loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning. Sande calmly avoided disaster as he yielded only one run off a fielders' choice.

Sande earned his second win after holding the Blue Hose to the lone run on four hits in 5.2 innings, lowering his ERA to 3.69.

After the five-run first inning, Sande's counterpart in the opposing dugout, Jackson Dean settled into a groove. Dean only allowed three more Radford hits through seven frames as the Highlanders failed to have a runner reach second base safely after the first inning.

The Blue Hose inched within three runs as Jonathan White led off the eighth inning with a solo home run.

After Presbyterian went to its bullpen, Radford was able to break into the scoring column again as Higgerson earned a two-out walk in the bottom half of the inning.

Moving into scoring position on a stolen base, Higgerson set up a very important insurance run as Podaras lined a 1-2 pitch down the left field line for Radford's sixth run on a stand-up double. The double gave Podaras his seventh multi-hit and third multi-RBI game on the season.

No going down without a fight, Presbyterian opened the ninth with a Nick Wise solo home run off newly entered Brandon Donovan

Radford's bullpen had only allowed one run on one hit in 2.2 innings between Andrew Nardi and Kyle Palmer before the home run.

Donovan proceeded to walk two batters with one out as White came to the plate as the tying run. Radford called upon Evan Threehouse to work out of the jam and the sophomore struck out the two batters he faced, earning his first save of the season.
