BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After falling behind 4-1 in the first inning, Radford answered with six runs in the second inning en route to a 9-5 series clinching victory over Campbell on Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

One of the keys to success was Kayla Huffman (6-3), who pitched six innings of relief, allowed one earned run on four hits, walked one and struck out eight.

Down 4-1, Maggie Rowe led off the second inning with a five-pitch walk. A single from Marissa Yow and a wild pitch put runners at second and third with no outs. Brianna Mills stepped in and hit a ball that tailed away from Bri Bryant, the Camels center fielder, and landed in right center field. Pinch runner, Lindsey Toneygay, and Yow scored on the play and cut the Campbell deficit to one-run.

Mills advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, but Melissa Tullar muffed the throw at first and allowed Mills to cross home plate and tie the game at four.

After the first out of the inning, another sac bunt advanced Hunter Mundy to third. Sofia Tapia blasted another ball that hit the bottom of the wall in the right field gap for an RBI double that scored the go-ahead run.

After a pitching change, Talia Douglas cleared the bases with a low line drive screamer that curled around the foul pole in left field. The two-run home run gave the Highlanders a comfortable 7-4 lead.

That's when Kayla Huffman entered for Radford. She gave up three hits over the first two innings she pitched, but also picked up three of her eight strikeouts in that time. She tallied her fourth punch out of the game, but surrendered a solo shot off the bat of Bryant in the fourth inning. Bryant's third home run of the series made it an 8-5 game.

Radford scored their eighth run of the contest in the top of the fourth when Marissa Gagliano scored her second run of the day on an error.

While Huffman was wheeling and dealing, Radford picked its final run of the game in the top of the seventh inning on a two-out wild pitch. She closed out the bottom of the seventh with two fly outs and a groundout giving Radford its second Big South series win of the season.

QUOTABLE
"Huffman had an outstanding game in the circle. She stepped in when we needed her and it was huge. The spark she gave us really showed on the offensive end as the bats really picked her up. It was a big team win and we're excited to get back to the NRV and finally have our home opener." - Hope Creasy

ON DECK
The Highlanders will have their home opener on Wednesday night as Virginia Tech travels to Radford Softball Stadium for a 7 p.m., first pitch. Radford will look to go undefeated against the ACC in the regular season for the first time in program history.
