WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Radford concluded regular season play against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents with a 5-1 loss to Wake Forest on Tuesday night as the Highlanders stranded eight runners on base after collecting six hits.

Commanding a 11-9 record when scoring first, Radford struck first in the top of the second. Colby Higgerson lined a one-double down the right field line and Straton Podaras followed with a single into center, putting runners on the corners.

Garrett Matheny put down a sacrifice bunt toward the first base line as Wake Forest starter Colin Peluse flipped toward home. Higgerson was able to slide around the catcher as Logan Harvey was unable to hold onto the ball.

Richard De la Cruz earned a walk to load the bases for Radford with only one out. The Highlanders were unable to push across another run in the second as they stranded seven in the first five innings.

After collecting three hits through the first three innings and stranding two on in the first, Wake Forest broke into the scoring column in the fourth. A Bobby Seymour two-out double set up a Chris Lanzilli RBI double down the left field line, knotting the game at one.

Wake Forest took the lead and added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking a 4-1 lead. Johnny Aiello handed the Demon Deacons the lead on a single through the left side. Seymour added a run on a sac fly and Lanzilli's second double of the evening resulted in his second RBI.

After earning three walks in the sixth, Wake Forest added its final run on a wild pitch. Demon Deacon pitchers retired the Highlanders in order in the sixth and seventh innings, retiring eight straight until a Matt Roth one-out double in the eighth. Roth was responsible for the previous Radford hit in the fifth inning.

The Highlanders stranded eight runners on base, leaving 30 on in the last three games. Roth led Radford with two hits, earning his 15th multi-hit game of the season with his team leading 11th double.
