MCKNIGHT AND THE HIGHLANDERS TOP ULM IN REDHAWKS INVITATIONAL

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Radford volleyball team cruised to a three set victory (25-22, 25-14, 25-23) over ULM on Saturday afternoon thanks to a top-tier performance by Mallory McKnight, who led all players with 14 kills.

McKnight was three kills away from setting a new career-high. She had 11 after the first two sets, which was tied for a season-high. The junior from Denton, Texas picked up three more kills in the second set to best her season-high by three kills.

As a team Radford totaled 44 kills, which is the most of any three set match this season and held the Warhawks to a season-low 20 kills with a .076 attack percentage.

SET ONE
Radford jumped out to an early lead, 11-5, thanks to seven kills, three service aces and one attack error. The Warhawks stormed back and cut the Highlander lead to one, 13-12. Then it was the Highlanders turn to make a fun of their own as a 7-3 run gave them a 20-15 lead. ULM made another push late, but couldn't get any closer than three points.

SET TWO
In the second set second set Radford didn't let its foot off the gas pedal. Haley Kleespies and Alyssa Carruth held serve and took the Highlanders to an 11-2 lead. ULM scored a few points, but the lead increased to 11 – 17-6 – thanks to a kill by Kleespies and a bad set by the Warhawks. ULM cut it to as low as nine, but the lead was too much for the Warhawks to overcome.

SET THREE
It was a back-and-forth set in the finale and ULM took a 12-9 lead. It didn't take long for Radford to regain the lead as McKnight and Kylie Tuxford had a pair of kills each that gave Radford a 13-12 lead. The Highlanders didn't lose the lead, but ULM tied the set at 23 after two Highlander attack errors. However, ULM had a bad set by McKinley Thiede that gave Radford a 24-23 advantage and a block by Kleespies and McKnight clinched the match for the Highlanders.
