RADFORD, Va. – Victor Valls scored the game-winning goal three minutes into the first overtime period to lift the Radford men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Howard Tuesday night at Cupp Stadium.
Valls tapped in a rebound from a deflected shot by
Octavio Ocampo, beating Howard goalkeeper Emery Simon to his right. The goal marked the second consecutive match that Valls has scored in.
Howard took a 1-0 lead with its only shot of the first half, as Franchino Chambers found Andres Gomez, whose open shot deflected off Radford goalkeeper
Joseba Incera and into the net. The Highlanders had chances in the first half, but were unable to get one past Simon.
The Highlanders struck for the tying goal early in the second half, as a loose ball off a set piece found its way to Ocampo, who beat Simon to the right side for his second goal of the season in the 56th minute. Radford kept the pressure on the Bison, as
Baptiste Fousse had a header off a set piece saved by Simon and
Baye Djibril Faye hit the crossbar with a shot late in the half.
The mounting pressure forced by the Highlanders finally broke through, as
Dondre' Robinson stole the ball from a Howard player deep in the attacking zone and crossed it in to Ocampo, whose deflected shot set Valls up for the winning goal.

As a team, the Highlanders outshot Howard 21-4 and had a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. The plus-17 margin in shots is the largest advantage Radford has had in shots this season.
