MASSIVE RUN CARRIES RADFORD PAST CENTRAL PENN

RADFORD, Va. – Backed by a 27-0 run that carried over two halves, the Radford men's basketball team soared past Central Penn, 90-45, on Sunday inside the Dedmon Center.

It was a back-and-forth affair for most of the first half with seven lead changes and two ties until Cle'von Greene and Devine Eke scored five points to set Radford apart 32-25 with 5:43 to play.

On the next possession Central Penn's Deon Tabb made it a five-point game with a layup. Then at the 4:40 mark Leroy Butts IV made a shot in the paint to put the Highlanders in front by seven. That sparked a 17-0 run by the Highlanders to end the first half and give them a 22-point advantage at the break, 49-27.

During the run, Radford went 7-for-9 from the floor and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Carlik Jones led the way with seven points, followed by Donald Hicks who had six with a pair of 3-pointers.

Coming out of the break the Highlanders extended their 17-0 run with two quick 3-pointers from Greene and Hicks. Devonnte Holland and Jones made a pair of layups to spread the run to 27 unanswered over 6:29 and Radford controlled a 59-27 lead just 2:05 into the second half. Radford went 5-for-6 from 3-point range during the 27-point streak.

Noah Baylor stopped the bleeding with a layup at 17:25, but the Highlanders didn't slow down. Eventually Miles Jones doubled Radford's lead, 72-36, with a jump shot and 10:19 to play. Two and a half minutes later, Holland notched his season-high 10th point that gave the Highlanders a 40-point advantage with under eight minutes in regulation.

Over the last 6:48, Radford's bench scored 11 of the game's final 17 points and it came from five different players. Quinton Morton-Robertson scored the last points of the contest and totaled a career-high 10 going 4-for-8 from the floor and 2-for-4 from deep. He added a career-high five assists as well.

The freshman was the fourth player to score in double figures as Greene's 13 led the way followed by C. Jones' and Holland's 10 each. The guard from Cincinnati, Ohio was one assist shy of a double-double in only 23 minutes played.

Eke led all players with a season-high 12 rebounds followed by Holland's six. The Highlanders outrebounded the Knights, 44-26.

STAT OF THE GAME

TWEET OF THE GAME

QUOTABLE

"It took us a little while to get going," Mike Jones said. "I thought that in the first part of the first half, we were not as intense as we needed to be, particularly on the defensive end and allowed them to gain a lot of confidence. They did a great job of getting into the lane and made some shots, but also got some easy dump-downs to their bigs and they scored. Probably halfway through that half, the light switch finally went on and I thought our guys did a good job of really talking it out in the huddles and understanding that we were not playing at the energy level that we needed. They were able to flip the switch and play a lot more intense for the rest of the game, finished the half the right way and continued that in the second half."

UP NEXT
It's that time of the year as conference play starts on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., as Tubby Smith and the High Point Panthers make a trip to the Dedmon Center.
