MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO CAMPBELL IN ANOTHER NAIL-BITER; GETS SHARE OF REGULAR SEASON TITLE

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Radford men's basketball team fell, 64-62, to Campbell in the 2018-19 regular season finale on Saturday, but still takes home a share of the Big South regular season title.

At 20-10 overall and 12-4 in conference play, the Highlanders earn their first regular season championship since 2008-09 and will be the No. 2 seed in the Big South Tournament next week. They own a First Round bye and will play the winner of the 7/10 game.

Graduate center Mawdo Sallah tied his season high with 14 points, going 6-for-10 from the floor. He added four rebounds and two blocks in a great effort. Redshirt sophomore guard Carlik Jones also reached double digits, scoring 13 points thanks to a 7-for-8 performance at the free throw line.

All nine Radford players that saw the floor against Campbell scored at least one field goal. They all combined for a huge advantage in rebounding, pulling down 37 boards compared to just 25 for the Camels.

Just like on Wednesday night, the Highlanders flew out of the gates with a great start to the game. Before Campbell could even get on the scoreboard, Radford had mounted a 10-0 lead after back-to-back threes from junior guard Donald Hicks and junior guard Travis Fields Jr.

The Camels finally scored their first field goal at 15:45, but the visitors continued to negate any comeback effort. Radford's lead grew to as many as 14 (28-14) with 5:20 left before halftime and then the nation's leading scorer came alive.

Campbell senior guard Chris Clemons scored nine points in the final five minutes and 16 points in the first half to make it 34-28 heading into the break.

It wasn't nearly as easy to get shots to fall in the second half as Radford went just 10-for-27 (37.0%) over the final 20 minutes including a tough 2-for-9 (22.2%) from beyond the arc. After back-and-forth play for much of the period, Campbell finally tied the game at 43-all with 10:23 left.

Their first lead, 47-46, came a little over a minute later and from there the Highlanders had to kick it into high gear. A four-point Campbell lead crept up, but was erased and the game stood at 62-62 with 29 seconds left in regulation.

Two free throws put the Camels ahead with four second to go and the Highlanders failed to get a shot off as the clock hit zero.

SECOND CHANCES
Radford earned an 11-0 advantage in second chance points on the day thanks in large part to a 12-2 lead in offensive rebounds. Hicks was responsible for three of those offensive boards all on his own.
