ROGERS LIFTS RADFORD PAST GARDNER-WEBB IN BIG SOUTH OPENER

RADFORD, Va. – Senior midfielder Emma Rogers scored a game-winning goal with 1:26 left in regulation to lift the Radford women's lacrosse team to a 16-15 victory over Gardner-Webb at Cupp Stadium on Saturday.

The Highlanders and Runnin' Bulldogs were locked in an extremely close contest and the drama only increased as the clock ticked down. Gardner-Webb opened the game on a 3-0 run, but Radford responded with four of the next five goals to get back in it. The Runnin' Bulldogs then went on to score the final three goals of the first half to take a 9-7 lead into halftime.

Radford regrouped and came out firing in the second half, going on a 6-2 run to jump out in front. Then, with less than four minutes to go, GWU scored back-to-back goals to flip a 14-13 Radford lead into a 15-14 deficit.

A yellow card left Radford a man down, but it couldn't stop Rogers and senior midfielder Callie Bonnel from connecting on a game-tying goal with 2:14 on the clock. After a draw control win, the Highlanders ran their offense to perfection and Rogers hit the back of the net to clinch the win.

Radford improves to 1-0 in Big South play and 2-7 overall while Gardner-Webb drops to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Rogers finished with four goals, two assists, four ground balls and a caused turnover to stuff the stat sheet. Junior attacker Lindsey Carroll scored four goals of her own while Bonnel (2), Juliette Ruland (2) and Adrian Rius (2) each finished with multiple goals as well.

Freshman defender Katie Bendrick was excellent in the back yet again, contributing six draw control wins, six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior goalie Maddie Mashewske did absolutely everything she could to keep Radford in the game with 10 saves.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Highlanders earned a statistical advantage in nearly every category on Saturday. They led in shots taken (38-32), shots on goal (34-25), clears (22-18), ground balls (37-23), draw controls (17-16) and free position shots (15-10).
