HIGHLANDERS FALL IN RUBBER GAME AT CAMPBELL, 7-0

Buies Creek, N.C. – The Radford baseball team lost a 7-0 decision against Big South front runner, Campbell, on Sunday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.  The victory gave the hosts the win in the series and a three-game lead over the Highlanders in the conference standings.

Radford (17-18, 9-6 Big South) starter Cole Dunn took the loss and fell to 1-2 on the season. Dunn, who threw 53 pitches, yielded three earned runs on three hits over three innings of work.

Right-handed reliever Evan Threehouse pitched two scoreless innings in just his fifth appearance of the season. Threehouse fanned two batters and allowed just one hit.

The Highlander bats were only able to muster two hits against Campbell starter Ryan Chase on the afternoon. The left-hander walked just three and fanned three batters over seven innings as he improved to 5-1 on the season.

Campbell (23-13, 12-3 Big South) got on the board with a run on two hits against Dunn in the bottom of the second inning. Third baseman Collin Wolf doubled with a hard smash over the third base bag and scored on a two-out single to right by second baseman Tyler Anshaw.

The Camels added a pair of runs in the following frame as Dunn yielded a lead-off infield single to center fielder A.J. Hrica and then hit left fielder Matthew Barefoot with the first pitch of the at bat.  The two base promptly executed a double-steal to get in scoring position for right fielder Grant Harris. Harris put down an RBI sacrifice bunt up the first base line to score Hrica and shortstop Luis Gimenez followed with an RBI groundout to make it 3-0.

Right-handed reliever Austin Gerber followed Dunn in the fourth inning and Camels' catcher Zach Minnick sliced a two-out RBI double to right field to widen the lead.

Gerber allowed the first two batters to reach in the bottom of the sixth on a walk and a hit batsman and was replaced by right-hander Graham Firoved.  The right-hander unloaded two consecutive wild pitches to score a run. First baseman Kolby Collins then blooped a single to right to make it 6-0.  Firoved then walked Hrica and plunked left fielder Matt Barefoot with the bases juiced for the final tally of the game.

Phil Simpson and Joey Skracic worked the final two innings to close out the contest for the Camels.

Radford, who was blanked for the second time this season, will travel to Virginia on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
