Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

RIUS AND ROGERS COMBINE FOR 10 GOALS AT WINTHROP

ROCK HILL, S.C. – A 7-2 run over the final 15 minutes allowed Winthrop to complete a comeback and the Radford women's lacrosse team fell, 16-14, at Eagle Field on Wednesday.

The first half of the game was as close as you can imagine with both teams responding over and over throughout the period. Sophomore Jennifer Shield got the scoring started with a goal just 55 seconds into the action. Then when the Eagles hit back with a 4-1 run, the Highlanders put together a 4-0 run of their own.

Winthrop managed to piece together a 3-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 7-6 lead, but Radford evened things at 8-all heading into halftime.

The Highlanders came out on fire in the second half, scoring four of the first five goals to take a 12-9 lead. A flurry of action from that point on all seemed to go the Eagles' way and they soared for a 7-1 run that put them ahead for good.

Seniors Adrian Rius and Emma Rogers were catalysts on the offensive side of the ball, scoring five goals each. Shield finished with a pair of goals while seniors Callie Bonnel and Juliette Ruland contributed one goal each as well.

Freshman defender Katie Bendrick stepped up once again with a team-high six draw control wins while junior midfielder Brittany Rinaldi forced a team-high four turnovers. Fouls really hurt the Highlanders though as they were called for 28 compared to just 10 for Winthrop.

STAT OF THE GAME
Radford earned advantages in several statistical categories including shots (33-29), shots on goal (23-21) and caused turnovers (12-11). The Highlanders also tied in draw controls (16-16) and had less turnovers (12-15).
