HIGHLANDERS BATTLE SPIDERS IN HOME OPENER

RADFORD, Va. – Radford and Richmond battled it out Saturday afternoon with a close one-goal game lasting for the first ten minutes before the Spiders pulled away late in the first half and held on to eventually win 16-3.

Lindsey Carroll and Grace Gleason started the scoring for the Highlanders six minutes into the match with both of their fifth goals of the season. Carroll also contributed an assist which is her first of the season. Brittany Rinaldi also added a goal of her own to make it a one-point affair.

The momentum swang in the opponent's favor however as about halfway through the first half Carroll went down in a non-contact play and wouldn't return to the game and from there on the Spiders would score seven goals to close the half.

Maddie Bowman played all 60 minutes in the net for Radford and recorded 10 saves to help keep the Highlanders in the game. Her defensive effort was a career-high in saves for the sophomore making her ninth appearance in the net.

Margaret Gleason, Kirsten Grzybowski and Katie Bendrick all put up great defensive efforts combined to force nine turnovers by the Spiders. Maggie Egan and Jennifer Shield also caused two turnovers apiece.

STAT OF THE GAME
Radford forced Richmond to turn it over 21 times in the match which was 17 more turnovers than the last time Richmond played against Longwood.
