HIGHLANDERS EDGED BY BEARS IN SERIES FINALE

MACON, Ga. – Seven different Radford players recorded a base hit in Sunday's series finale, but Mercer scored three runs in the eighth inning to squeak by the Highlanders, 7-6, at OrthoGeorgia Park.

Colby Higgerson had a game-high three hits, while Anthony Galati, J.D. Mundy and David Bryant tallied two hits apiece.

Mercer took an early lead on a two-run homer in the first, but the Highlanders responded quickly. Mundy led off the second with his first homer of the year, a solo shot to right to cut the deficit in half. Radford then took a 4-2 lead in the inning on a two-run single by Higgerson and an RBI single by Bryant.

The home side added a run in the bottom of the second, but the Highlanders shut down the threat, as Brandon Feathers got a popup and a lineout to end the inning.

Radford extended its lead in the sixth on Higgerson's third hit of the day, an RBI single. The Bears again cut the lead back to one in the bottom half before Colin Reid left the bases loaded with a strikeout. Straton Podaras added a two-out RBI single in the seventh to make it 6-4 in favor of the Highlanders.

Mercer put together a rally in the eighth inning, sending eight to the plate and scoring three runs. The Bears took the lead on a pinch-hit two run single with two outs, then held on in the ninth to close out the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Higgerson's three-hit game was his third game of the season with three or more hits, the most on the team. Galati has reached base safely in all seven games this season. Feathers threw a career-high four innings in relief, allowing just one earned run.
