Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

HOT SHOOTING HIGHLANDERS ROLL PAST HIGH POINT

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Hot shooting by the Radford men's basketball team carried them to an 81-70 victory over High Point in the Millis Center on Saturday night.

Radford (14-9, 9-2 Big South) tallied a scorching 60.5 field goal percentage and nailed 13-of-26 shots from behind the arc to shoot 50 percent from 3-point range – the best in any game all season long.

After High Point (7-17, 4-7 Big South) scored the opening bucket, it was all Highlanders from that point forward as the team raced to an 11-0 run connecting on their first four field goal attempts, including two 3-pointers. After that, Radford continued the offensive pressure and eventually grew the lead to 19-6 with 11:34 to play in the first half.

The Highlanders shot 61.5 percent from the floor in the first half and hit eight 3-pointers to take a 44-24 lead into the locker room. The 20-point advantage at the half was the largest halftime lead against a Division I opponent all season long. It was a 23-point lead, which would've been the largest against any team, but Jamal Wright hit a buzzer-beater from the High Point logo just inside half court.

Midway through the second half Radford used a 10-2 run to take its largest lead of the night pulling ahead by 26 points, 58-32, with 12:56 remaining in the game. Radford maintained a 20-point cushion throughout the majority of the second half but High Point used a 10-0 spurt to make it a 75-65 game with 2:35 to play.

The Panthers cut the lead to as little as eight points, with a little over a minute to play, but Josiah Jeffers knocked down a huge 3-pointer to put the Highlanders back ahead by double-digits. High Point missed its final three field goal attempts and Radford left the Millis Center with its fourth double-digit conference win this season – two coming against High Point.

Jeffers scored a career-high 12 points and knocked down a career-high four 3-pointers going 4-of-7 from distance, while Devine Eke led the Highlanders at the charity stripe knocking down a season-high eight free throws. Travis Fields, Jr., set his teammates up for success with a career-high eight assists.

High Point shot 36.3 percent in the first half and only connected on 2-of-9 3-pointers (22.2 percent). The Panthers shot better in the second half but ended the night with a 40.0 field goal percentage.

STAT OF THE GAME
Radford hit 13 3-pointers against High Point. The 13 long balls are the most in a conference game and tied the second-most in any game this season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Carlik Jones led all players with 20 points going 7-for-10 from the floor and knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. Donald Hicks tied Jeffers with the most 3-pointers on the night with four to chip in 12 points. Wright and Denny Slay II led the Panthers each scoring 17 points.

TWEET OF THE GAME

QUOTABLE
"That first half was the best half that we've played on both ends of the floor this year," Mike Jones said. "It's great to get it in February and hopefully we can use this as momentum to continue to push this team forward."
